We went and watched DF's 11-and-under soccer team that he coaches play today. I'd say that's a classic wrap-the-leg-around-and-trip-you foul being committed by the other team.

Ouch...I tore ligaments in my knee that way. Of course, I was on the receiving end of the classic-wrap-the-leg-around-and trip-you foul....I am always on the wrong end of things like that.
